Asslam-o-Alaikum. I have a problem which I cannot discuss with my parents or siblings. Hence this post. I am 19-years old, and addicted to self-pleasure. I feel very guilty and sorry about this, I've tried to correct myself for the past 3 years but have failed. Can some brother please tell me what should I do to stop this habit? thank you.

As'Salaamu Alaikum Zarak, Though I cannot justify your behavior which you have mention as a Muslim, but as a person as another guy to another I can understand. In actuality its quite normal. But Islamically it is prohibited. Actually brother there are forums here in which "masturbation" which is the self-pleasure I assumed you were referring to is considered a sin in Islam. There are ahadiths which refer to this but unfortunately there are no hadiths availabl where I'm at as I'm traveling right now. But, in accordance to some hadith it is said that when sexual desire is in the mind its best to do three things: 1) prayer 2) fast 3) Read Qur'an Perhpas the reasons for this, is the sexual desire to please oneself takes time away from pleasing God. In other words while you are pleasing yourself, that time could be best utilized by praying to God or reading Qur'an. But if you happen to keep on doing this I suggest praying to God and asking for his guidence. None of us really can tell you what to do. Ask God what to do and he will help you brother....May Allah guide you aright

...And btw, masturbation is far better than sexual agression! If all child molesters would practice self-pleasure instead of attacking children, we would be in a better world. An important thing is to make sure you are doing things. Do you have a job? involved in sports? join a youth group or other non profit organization? Keep yourself active. Next I would say you should start looking for a wife. These urges happen for a reason. Learn your Islam, get involved with the community, and i promise you will find a good woman. Temporarily, I would recommend self discipline. You need to get some control over yourself. The fact is that it is not common for someone to be in that much of a need to post this message in this forum. This is a problem if you are truthful. Frankly for some men especially those who suffer from constant
lust I believe 90% of their efforts to marry are to quench those desires. Prior to my conversion to Islam when I was really promiscuous sex used to be the norm for me and the desire was I need to have it. Much like masturbation, but in matters of sexual appetites I believe that a woman who is good first and is loyal to you and wants the same things you want (things besides wanting to have sexual intercourse) then that is the woman for you. Now to quell the urge of masturbation I cannot say because various methods work differently for different people. I cannot tell what works for me because it cannot work for you. Your best bet is to consult with God. |

Yes, get involved in your community and naturally, you'll meet people and women and one day, you'll feel it... That that particular woman and you will feel well eachother and then... well, it's up to you, but don't rush it. Risks of having a bad union are far higher if you feel in a rush... I think you are not aware of the side effects of masturbation, this is why you are prefering masturbation over sexual aggression. I understand what you mean, but your view is not a solution to the sexual problem. It is just like saying that "burning yourself with fire is better than burning others". Most of the people take masturbation very lightly and consider it a minor thing but when a person gets into the habbit of masturbation, then in the future a person suffers from the following problems: 1) Mental Depression 2) Problem in Digestive System 3) Liver doesnot function properly 4) Kidney doesnot function upto its optimum level. 5) Lack of Confidence. 6) Loss of memory 7) Decline in Eyesight. This miserable practice distroys a persons career and future and it is the best way to lose once future and career. I have seen several youngesters who cry after suffering from the side effects of masturbation and get treatments from different doctors and take herbal medicines as well but they donot recover completely. I would strongly recommend my brothers especially those who are practicing masturbation to try to ignore it as soon as possible. Please note that never leave or stop any habbit immediately or suddenly ,try to leave the habbit slowly and slowly, inshallah Allah(swt) will help you. Always remember "Allah helps those who help themselves and His people". May Allah(swt) protect me and all the people from such evil practices . Actually, NONE of what you stated here is true. Whoever wants to know about this question, please ask a Urologist and not someone from this board. None of that is true at all and is most laughable in this day and age. Again, you do not even have to believe me, just call a urologist and ask him about all of this.

| I agree with Sister Lameese those seven lists are not even true in fact masturbation is heralded as the most safest form of sexual pleasure than having unprotected sex. However Masturbation is Haraam in Islam (according to sources in Hadith of course) but yes speak to a Urologist on this issue not here. |

Asalaam alaikum The reason to do or not to do an action should be based on the how Allah and His Messenger (saaw) rule on the matter. Sexual activity is one of the most critical actions that a man undertakes. The believer seeks the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (saaw) in this matter, not that of scientists or doctors. As for the medical effects of masturbation, I cannot agree with the list provided. There are certain realities of masturbation which are damaging to the person, including causing abrasions, tissue damage, even flaccidity (unable to get erection) etc. Ultimately, the Muslim man must consider that Allah (SWT) is watching him and the angels are recording his actions. May Allah (SWT) grant us taqwaa to do the right thing and avoid the wrong thing so that He (SWT) will be pleased with us. Usama |
