Asalaamu alaikum:
I have been following a website with some other sisters in a group from our Islamic centre and would like to share the link and some excerpts from the site with you. The site is at : http://deedschallenge.wordpress.com/ - http://deedschallenge.wordpress.com/  and each week it presents a challenge for us to work on and think about for self improvement. This week it is on honouring and being kind to your parents and and also covers anger, Some excerpts are:

Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or more attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say, my Lord! bestow on them Thy Mercy, even as they cherished me in childhood. (Quran 17: 23,24)

Abu Hurairah, radiyallahu anhu, reported that a man said to the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wasallam: Advise me! The Prophet said, Do not become angry and furious. The man asked (the same) again and again, and the Prophet said in each case, Do not become angry and furious. (Al-Bukhari; Vol. 8 No. 137)

"Control your anger. Control your anger. Control your anger. The world is often a less-than-congenial place. We throw ourselves into a frenzy of life that creates an environment of intractability and obstinacy. Were yelling at the guy who wouldnt let us into the exit lane. Were brusquely rushing our kids because theyre taking too long to put their socks on in the morning. Were letting out an exaggerated sigh because the lady at the grocery store wriggled her cart in front of ours at the EXPRESS check-out. ENOUGH! We have to control our lives so that we can control our emotions. If we desire strength of character, strength of spirit, and strength of mind, lets look to the Quran and ahadith for inspiration. We must find patience and trust in ALLAH (SWT), but we must also take responsibility for our actions and emotions. Lets take a closer look at ourselves this week. See how often you can contain your anger, or at the very least, recognize how useless your anger is to you and to your life as a whole. Ask ALLAH to help you control your anger, and implement some of the ways that the Prophet (SAW) advised us to curtail it. "
