i came across something that really frightened me. is it true that in Muslim country ( egypt) if a woman has to leave the country with her kids...that is if she runs away from an abusive husband, that her husband can have a fatwa issued for her to be killed.? if so is this practice Islamic?

are our sisters supposed to endure abuse and all types of violence at the hands of their husbands cos if they choose to leave they lose their kids...or if they want to leave with their kids..they run the risk of being killed.

If this is true these types of "Fatwas" exist in Arab countries who have no true understanding of ethical Law anyway.

Quran is the only fatwa for Islam. None else has the right to issue fatwa in the name of Islam.

Fatwas for the children in a family are given by the parents & in clan based societies; the clan leaders. Arabs had been into clan based societies for a long time and have really mixed up islam with their clan system.

Quran says, even if your parents are saying something which is not in line with Islam/Quran, you are not supposed to obey that.

The fatwa which all are discussing; it's totally against religion and is the ootcome of patriarchical society. Domination of the male. It suits other males; so they all remain silent on such things.

This is totally against Islam. Quran does not permit/rathar forbids men to keep a woman against her will. (Sura Nisa)
