Salaamu Alaykum, I will share with my family at Islamicity the terrible speeches from a Gold Star Rally. The deaths of their children and family members are not tragic, according to them, they are noble. They are glad to have been able to sacrifice their children for a noble cause and would do so again. If you oppose the mission in Iraq or ask that the troops be brought home, you deny the nobility of the family members' deaths. Each one who spoke reflected these sentiments. However, the gentleman from Rhode Island went on to say that when Martin Luthur King said, "The greatest purveyor of violence today is my own country... he got it wrong." (sic) He addressed the mistaken cause for the Iraq war as being nonconsequential. He said that many wars in America were started for reasons other than those stated and gave examples using a methodology that might be used in a third-grade book report. Worst of all, yes it gets worse, he quoted someone from American History as stating that when the heavy-hand of America needs to strike, many women and children might get killed, but that was just a natural part of war and not to be decried or regretted. I had truly felt compassion for those who lost their children in war, on either side, because the children often don't know why they are fighting, but that they are just fulfilling the wishes of their parents and country whom they love. But if the parents wish death and destruction on others simply because they are not American, without any just cause for a war and wish to continue such wars for the purpose of "sanctifying" their children's deaths, then I don't have compassion for those who show no compassion for others. Oh, and you should have heard them decimate the idiocy of the liberals in America. If it weren't for the liberals mucking everything up with their "foolish" compassion for non-Americans, we would be running the world by now. I almost feel like voting straight Democratic and giving up my hopes for the Green Party or any Muslim candidates after hearing that! And as for Martin Luthur King, I'm beginning to forgive his human failings more and more and focus on his words of compassion and human dignity and freedom each year. Sounds a bit like this one, from the ever-quotable Thomas Friedman: The hidden hand of the market will never work without a hidden fist. McDonald's cannot flourish without McDonnell Douglas, the designer of the F-15. And the hidden fist that keeps the world safe for Serv Ref: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Thomas_L._Friedman |
