As-Salaam alaikum,
At times some people find it confusing as to what specifically entails entry into Paradise or Jannah, and salvation from Jahannam or hell. One of the sayings of Sheikh Sufyan Thawri, may Allah be Merciful to him, helps resolve this, when he said:-- "Being saved from hell is from Allah's Forgiveness, entry into Paradise is from Allah's Mercy, and your place and rank in Jannah is from your good deeds." In otherwords, Allah's Forgiveness will give us freedom from Hell and Allah's Mercy (Rahma) will cause our entry into Jannah and our good deeds will determine assigned rank one is given inside Jannah. This becomes clearer in some ahadith... for example, there is a hadith indicating that being in the first row in Sallah or eating Suhur are all rewarded with Allah's Rahma...Mercy. And Hadith about minor sins being forgiven for reciting certain Du'as or azkar, entail with them hope of freedom from hell/Jahannam.... just as Ibn Qayyim observed:-- "The people of Heaven and the people of Hell all do good things. The question is who avoids bad things."... meaning we should avoid bad things; we should avoid sins. |
