Why Muslim divided in so many sects?

In the presence of Qurain & Sunnah why we Muslim divided in the many sects? Even that some time one sect declared or called (Issued fatwa) the other one sect is the group of disbeliever. 

Does some one know that in Islamic history from which era firstly entered these factions in Islam.
