What name should I take: Umar, Omar or Oumar?

   Assalamu Alaykum,

I live in Western Europe.

It seems that Umar may be the most phonetically correct, but Omar is the most common, so I really don't know which one to choose...

	Salam, I would say take Omar, like you said it's most common in western spelling.

	But the problem might be that many Westerners named Omar are non-Muslims (who got their name in reference to Omar Khayyam or Omar Bradley), so perhaps Westerners wouldn't associate the name "Omar" with the religion of Islam. On the other hand, the name Umar is never used by non-Muslims.

	Salaams, and welcome! If you live in Europe keep your birth name and adopt Omar as a nickname, but don't change your name.
