Asalamu Alakium Sisters and Brothers I am new to this site Insha Allah it will prove to be very infomative being that I am new to Islam. By the Mercy and Grace of God I was drawn to Islam while Visiting Arizonia.I am from Canada and It was the most important visit that I have made thus far!!!!!!! Well I am already finding it a challenge to perform Salat 5 time a day , being that It is new to me and I am adjusting to this . But how do You brothers and Sisiters Deal with performing Salat on the job at your place of employment What do you DO..??

As salamu alaikum, I've been really blessed with good employers. I find that simply explaining to your boss that you'll need a five minute break at a certain time to pray usually does the trick. I can remember in college I had a calculus test in the evening, my teacher let me walk out of the test to pray (maghrib) and come back to finish it. But things don't always go so peachy. Another semester I was taking an Arabic class in the evening. My teacher was from lebanon. She wouldn't let me take a break during the test so I could only finish half of it. I ended up getting a low score on that test. My classmates protested and I guess she felt a little embarrassed. So for the next test she gave me the test in halves (I guess so there would be no chance of me cheating). You're going to find people/employers willing to help you accommodate your needs as a muslim and some not willing. My advice to you is that if your job causes you to miss prayers (and thus have to pray them outside of their set times) , try and find another job. Anything that can take you away from the remembrance of Allah and your duty to him, can and most likely will lead you astray. May Allah bless you for your efforts and give you ithbat in this deen. Bismillah, In Shah Allah, God Willing, you will find a way to make your salat a part of your life and so routine and easy that it only makes your faith grow stronger with each prayer. May Allah, SWT, bless your efforts. One day at work I got one five minute bathroom break from 9 to 7 pm. I consider work to be like travel. (And I'm sure no-one will back me up on that. But you asked what we do in reality, so here's one answer.) One thing I like to do is remember that Dhikr is easy to do and brings me closer to Allah, SWT. So uncharitable folks will say that not saying all five prayers means I'm hell bound, but I really disagree. Again, please try do do your prayers, and whenver it is not possible, dhikr (Remembrance of Allah) brings us closer to Allah, SWT. Of course dua', prayers of supplication (without the wudu or prostrations) are always good to do. Pray for Allah, SWT's Mercy, Grace, or that your employer smile on you and allow you to say your salat at work on time! Ramadan Mubarak! (Congratulations on Ramadan!) |
