Kayman, Asalam Alykum, Jews, as we call them now were indeed once the followers of prophets of God like Moses or David or Noah. But when they rejected God and reject prophet Jesus(pbuh) the Messiah, they separated themselves from God due to their rejection to accept Essa-Ibn-Mariam (Jesus). So, due to their trespasses and rejections God cursed them, except those who repented and accepted what God revealed to the prophet. Similarly those (who call thenselves Christians) who elevated Jesus's status from a servant and beloved messenger of God to God, or those who said God has begotten a son (Jesus) only incurred God's wrath upon themselves, unless they repent from their blasphemy. That is the truth, and for a believer there is no confusion. I would suggest you read the Quran translation in a language you understand well on a regular basis. There are all the answers in there. Salam, Hasan |

In the 7th century Muslims thought that the Jews were cursed, therefore we can read about this in the Qur'an. There is also the comparison with apes and swines. Fortunately, many Muslims today think differently today and reject anti-semitism. We need the historical context to understand holy texts. And to answer the general question: Yes, Islam owes Judaism a great deal. Christianity also owes Judaism a great deal. There are numerous examples of Jewish thinking which found its way into other religions. |

Sahih International
Indeed, those who conceal what We sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We made it clear for the people in the Scripture - those are cursed by Allah and cursed by those who curse, 2:159 Among the Jews are those who distort words from their [proper] usages and say, "We hear and disobey" and "Hear but be not heard" and "Ra'ina," twisting their tongues and defaming the religion. And if they had said [instead], "We hear and obey" and "Wait for us [to understand]," it would have been better for them and more suitable. But Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few. 4:46 |

Assalamu alaika Kayman.
Please do not be confused! The real meaning of lu'ina is the removal of the mercy of Allah from those who disobeyed him. The verse referred to those who did not observe the Sabbath in the time of Prophet David (Dawud) and those who concocted the lie against Jesus son of Maryam that is a son of Allah. It is a general meaning applying to anyone who disobeys his Messenger. The Arabs used it in the time of ignorance to caution their leaders against the practice of injustice. Friendship |

Allah (swt) created all people and shall judge them according to what He gave them. Quran does not teach to insult Non-Muslims or put a curse on them. Muslims are not the judge and jury of the people of the Book.

What I don't understand is how can they be cursed if so many we have was derived from them?
Also, the Koran teaches us that God did give his word to Moses. If Jews are following the words of Moses, then how could Allah curse them? It's His word. I'm a very confused Muslim. |

Assalamu alaika Abu Loren.
Yes indeed so. We all have to learn the Arabic language and read the appropriate books. I am one of the lucky ones who have learned that language and has the resources and time to read and understand. You just give me a reference. The door of Mercy of Allah is never closed and is open to all. It is important that we understand the punishment of Allah is Standard and that if any civilization misbehaved it will be the same criterion as during previous Prophets. Friendship |

As'alaamu Alaikkum Friendship
I notice that you are trying to 'build bridges' between the Jews, Christians and the Muslims. However, it is crystal clear from the Holy Qur'an that the Jews are cursed in this life and the next and the Christians are astray from the Straight Path. I suggest you leave everything to Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala and concentrate on your own salvation. You cannot carry the sins of another person nor can you carry their sins. Although all three faiths are knows as the Abrahamaic faith the similiraty ended when the Final Revelation to mankind was given to Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). |
