Moon Sighting Possibility Diagrams:

"Science can not only calculate the birth of the new moon, it can also calculate the probable sighting and the part of Earth where the first sighting will be possible if the horizon is clear. It must be noted that even though birth of the new moon can be calculated with great precision different criteria are used for calculating the possible sighting and there is no standard method.

These sighting possibility diagrams are regularly published by Her Majestys Nautical Almanac Office and can be of great significance in determining the birth and placement of the crescent."

The Blue, Green up to the dark red in these diagrams show the location for the strongest posibilty of sighting the moon in the world at that date. The colours past the red indicate a less chance of seeing the moon in that region.

Taken from  Fatawa on Saudi Sighting used in UK from http://www.moonsighting.com/ The above has a very clear and easy way to understand moon sighting with diagrams further explaining why "It is impossible to sight the moon with a naked eye earlier than 13 hours old"

These diagrams are scientific calculation where the moon will be visible, it should be noted that in Islam a visual sighting is a must so these diagrams are used as an aid to help with accuracy in reporting the sighting.

Sighting Possibilities for Ramadan 1426

The birth of moon is on Monday October 3, 2005 at 10:28 Universal Time. On Oct 3, this moon is going to be 15 hours old on West coast of USA, and still impossible to see because it is in the Southern Hemisphere. It is too low on the horizon in North America and will set in 5 to 14 minutes after sunset. It cannot be seen in North America, it cannot be seen in Eastern part of the world on October 3. On October 4, it will be visible in most of the world except most of Asia and Europe, where it will be 24 to 31 hours old and less than 2 degrees above the horizon, still not visible. In Europe and most of Asia, it can be seen even on October 5, when it will be 48 to 55 hours old. Accordingly, the first day of Ramadan will be on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 for most of the world, Insha-Allah.

These are also of interest as they establish a track record for the year.

Quote The Geocentric New Moon will occur Inshallah on Tuesday 4th October 2005, at 08:28, Australian Eastern Standard Time. On this day it is either impossible or not possible to see the NEW crescent from almost all parts of the world. (At the best of locations, the moon will only be around 10hours from New Moon. The earliest possible sighting of the crescent is around 14 hours, and the average is post 18 hours from the new moon).

The only location which has a possibility to see the crescent (with optical aid) on Tuesday 4th October is the western parts within the Pacific Ocean. While on the next day, Wednesday 5th October 2005 the visibility of the NEW crescent could be seen by naked eye (or still by optical aid only) from Australia, Southern Asia, Northern Africa and USA.

According to the actual sighting of the crescent, the 1st of Ramadhan should Insha Allah be on Wednesday 5th October 2005 in Australia. However, there is a slight possibility that the crescent may not be sighted, causing the 1st of Ramadhan to be on 6th.

Insha allah sighting of the new moon on the 4th will take place, slight corection above there was a typo in the dates.

And the Devils are chained.

May the Nur (Light) of the Qur'an fill our hearts and souls,

Bring Harmony in our lives and Unite the Ummah. Ameen!

I beg of all of you to please forgive me during this Generous Month if I have in any way said something to hurt or offend you, causing you any grief or pain.

May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala Forgive us and facilitate and make easy all our Ibadah during this Blessed Month and at all other times. Ameen!

RAMADHAN MUBARAK
