Asslam-o-Alykum brothers and sisters
I've been searching regarding this issue on the internet for a long time but I've always got two side responses
Some say that ethanol is allowed if it is a medicine whereas others say its not?

I've been prescribed inhaler by my doctor due to asthma induced exercise. So, my question is that is it allowed if its a medicine or should it be avoided at all costs??

It says in a statement of the Islamic Fiqh Council of the Muslim World League:

It is permissible to use medicines containing negligible amounts of well-absorbed alcohol required in manufacturing that cannot be substituted, so long as that medicine is prescribed by a doctor of good character. It is also permissible to use alcohol for external cleaning of wounds, to kill germs, and in creams and lotions that are used externally. End quote.

Qaraaraat al-Majma al-Fiqhi al-Islami, p. 341

thankyou very much for your reply...
I'm quiet sure that menthol is different to ethanol?
If i'm wrong, can some one please shed some light on this question...

edit:
If the medicine is mixed with alcohol, and the percentage of alcohol is so great that this medicine is intoxicating, then it is khamr and it is haraam to take it. If the percentage of alcohol is very low and it does not intoxicate, then it is permissible to take it. It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daaimah (22/110)

found the answer on islamqa.info.
JazakAllah Khayr brothers and sisters :D
