Assalam alaikum,

Yes i would go with sister seeks, it is good to fast and follow the sunnah of the prophet on special occasions such as these, but to stretch it to such an extent that you actually forget why this day was primarily important is sure going out of bounds. This day was held special and the Prophet (pbuh) and his companions fasted on this day in order to remember the great favor of Allah (SWT)in saving Musa (AS)and his men. What is to be kept in mind here is that they "fasted" and gave thanks, and not "feasted"!

Hopefully Allah should guide us in understanding what is right and what is wrong.

May Allah guide us all, surely He guides whom He wills.

Asalaam Alaikum,

Thank you Seeks.

Some times it is best to focus on the basics, be moderate in our deen.
When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy. Rumi
