FIRST OF ALL.....PLEASE DONT COMPARE THE NOMINATION OF MU'AWIYAH WITH THE NOMINATION OF ALLAH (s.w.t)...ITS A GREAT OFFENCE.....
it seems u r comparing that Allah (s.w.t) chose prophets...and da same way mu'awiyah chose yazeed...thus the process of choosing is wrong....thats the point u r trying to make.... u have said that the "way of choosing khilafat" is not the same...and the words are just to describe a general phenomenon. which has happend in the past i.e. Making the khalifa......but ure views contradict to the views of the mufasireen.. the mufasireen of the aayah 24:55 have actually compared the situation in this aayah to be the situation of the people of Israel wen it comes to making a khalifa...and da general fact is that Prophet Moses made Prophet Joshua the successor before dying... u can read the tafseer of this aayah from the following link: http://www.altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=74&tSoraNo=24&tAyahNo=55&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0 the fightings occured due to the rebelious nature of people like mu'awiyah....those who were on haq remained on it....and no doubt whatever anybody says, Imam Ali (a.s) was on HAQ as was said by Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w).. i dont see any problem with the system of nomination by Allah (s.w.t)...as he knows everybody's intentions....and his nomination is PERFECT...and without any flaws...and that is what has happened before the time of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w)... [وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـئِكَةِ]This Ayah means, "O Muhammad ! Mention to your people what Allah said to the angels, [إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِى الأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً]Meaning people reproducing generation after generation, century after century, just as Allah said, [وَهُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَـئِفَ الاٌّرْضِ] [وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ حُلَفَآءَ الاٌّرْضِ] [وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَا مِنكُمْ مَّلَـئِكَةً فِى الاٌّرْضِ يَخْلُفُونَ ] [فَخَلَفَ مِن بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ]It appears that Allah was not refering to Adam specifically as Khalifah
Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibrahim Abu Zur`ah, who read the Scripture, reported that Al-Walid bin `Abd Al-Malik said to him: "Does anyone have the right to question the Khalifah You have read the first Scripture and the Qur'an, and you have understood them.'' He replied, "May I speak, O Commander of the faithful'' He said, "Speak, for you are under the protection of Allah.'' I said, "O Commander of the faithful, are you more dear to Allah, or Dawud, peace be upon him For Allah gave him both prophethood and rulership, then He warned him in His Book: [يدَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـكَ خَلِيفَةً فِى الاٌّرْضِ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَى فَيُضِلَّكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ]Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that `Uthman bin `Affan said, "The Ayah: [الَّذِينَ إِنْ مَّكَّنَّـهُمْ فِى الاٌّرْضِ أَقَامُواْ الصَّلَوةَ وَآتَوُاْ الزَّكَـوةَ وَأَمَرُواْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهَوْاْ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ]was revealed concerning us, for we had been expelled from our homes unjustly only because we said: `Our Lord is Allah.' Then we were given power in the land, so we established regular prayer, paid the Zakah, enjoined what is good and forbade what is evil, and with Allah rests the end of (all) matters. This is about my companions and I.'' Abu Al-`Aliyah said, "They were the Companions of Muhammad .'' As-Sabah bin Suwadah Al-Kindi said, "I heard `Umar bin `Abdul-`Aziz give a speech and say: [الَّذِينَ إِنْ مَّكَّنَّـهُمْ فِى الاٌّرْضِ]Then he said, "This is not obligatory only for those who are in authority, it also applies to those who are governed by them. Shall I not tell you what you can expect from your governor, and what duties those who are ruled owe to him Your rights over your governor are that he should check on you with regard to your duties towards Allah and restore the rights that you have over one another, and that he should guide you to the straight path as much as possible. Your duties towards him are that you should obey him without cheating and without resentment, and you should obey him both in secret and openly.'' `Atiyah Al-`Awfi said, "This Ayah is like the Ayah: [وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ ءامَنُواْ مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّـلِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِى الاْرْضِ] [وَلِلَّهِ عَـقِبَةُ الاٍّمُورِ]This is like the Ayah: [وَالْعَـقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ]Zayd bin Aslam said: [وَلِلَّهِ عَـقِبَةُ الاٍّمُورِ]"And with Allah will be the reward for what they did.''
