Keeping Ramadan alive the rest of the year

Almost invariably it happens a few days after the end of Ramadan: the letdown.

Fasting is finished; the nightly prayers are over; the group gatherings to break the fast have vanished. We can eat, drink, and be merry again when the sun is shining. And that special feeling you have in your heart-the one that keeps you going despite your hunger and thirst-gradually fades away.

The spiritual high evaporates, and all you are left with are the bad habits you tried to shed during Ramadan, but mysteriously rear their ugly heads once it is over.

The Hajj

"For Hajj are the months well known. If anyone undertakes that duty therein, let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness, nor wrangling in the Hajj. And whatever good you do (be sure) Allah know it. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best of provisions is right conduct. So fear Me, O you that are wise." (Quran 2:197)

Every year during the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar Dhul-Hijjah, over two million Muslims from 170 countries converge on Mecca Saudi Arabia to begin the rituals of the Hajj. This pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca is the world's largest annual religious gathering.
