    وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيْنَاء تَنبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِّلْآكِلِينَ (23:20)

    Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaa tanbutu bialdduhni wasibghin lilakileena

    Wainna lakum fee alanAAami laAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butooniha walakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminha takuloona

    Walaqad arsalna noohan ila qawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoona

    فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِن قَوْمِهِ مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَاء اللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الْأَوَّلِينَ (23:24)

    Faqala almalao allatheena kafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaa Allahu laanzala malaikatan ma samiAAna bihatha fee abaina alawwaleena

  • But the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth, replied: “This [man] is nothing but a mortal like yourselves who wants to make himself superior to you!     إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا بِهِ حَتَّى حِينٍ (23:25)

    Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAi alfulka biaAAyunina wawahyina faitha jaa amruna wafara alttannooru faosluk feeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illa man sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibnee fee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoona

  • Thereupon We inspired him thus: “Build, un­der Our eyes and according to Our inspiration, the ark [that shall save thee and those who follow thee]. And when Our judgment comes to pass, and waters gush forth in torrents over the face of the earth, place on board of this [ark] one pair of each [kind of animal] of either sex, as well as thy family - excepting those on whom sentence has already been passed; and do not appeal to Me [any more] in behalf of those who are bent on evildoing - for, behold, they are destined to be drowned! - 23:27 (Asad) -

    فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (23:28)

    Faitha istawayta anta waman maAAaka AAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allathee najjana mina alqawmi alththalimeena

    وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِلِقَاء الْآخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَاهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مَا هَذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ (23:33)

    Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheena kafaroo wakaththaboo biliqai alakhirati waatrafnahum fee alhayati alddunya ma hatha illa basharun mithlukum yakulu mimma takuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboona

  • And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: “This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: - 23:33 (Asad) -

    Al-Mu'minun (The Believers) - 23:34 
    وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَاسِرُونَ (23:34)

    Walain ataAAtum basharan mithlakum innakum ithan lakhasiroona

  • and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like your­selves, you will surely be the losers! - 23:34 (Asad) -

    أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ (23:35)

    AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittum wakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakum mukhrajoona

    قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِمِينَ (23:40)

    Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunna nadimeena

  • [And God] would say: “After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!’’ - 23:40 (Asad) -

    فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاء فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (23:41)

    Faakhathathumu alssayhatu bialhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaan fabuAAdan lilqawmi alththalimeena

  • And then the blast [of Our punishment] over­took them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! - 23:41 (Asad) -

    ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا آخَرِينَ (23:42)

  • AND AFTER them We gave rise to new genera­tions: - 23:42 (Asad) -

    مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ (23:43)

  • [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. - 23:43 (Asad) -

    ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا كُلَّ مَا جَاء أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ (23:44)

    Thumma arsalna rusulana tatra kulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohu faatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahum ahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yuminoona

    FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahum zuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoona

  • But they (who claim to follow you) have torn their unity wide asunder, piece by piece, each group delighting in [but] what they themselves possess [by way of tenets]. - 23:53 (Asad) -

    فَذَرْهُمْ فِي غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّى حِينٍ (23:54)

  • But leave them alone, lost in their ignorance, until a [future] time. - 23:54 (Asad) -

    Wala nukallifu nafsan illa wusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bialhaqqi wahum la yuthlamoona

    Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hatha walahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum laha AAamiloona

  • NAY, [as for those who have torn asunder the unity of faith] - their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this! But apart from that [breach of unity] they have [on their conscience even worse] deeds; and they will [continue to] commit them - 23:63 (Asad) -

    حَتَّى إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِم بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْأَرُونَ (23:64)

    Hatta itha akhathna mutrafeehim bialAAathabi itha hum yajaroona

  • until - after We shall have taken to task, through suffering, those from among them who [now] are lost in the pursuit of pleasures - they cry out in [belated] supplication. - 23:64 (Asad) -

    Al-Mu'minun (The Believers) - 23:65 
    لَا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ (23:65)

    La tajaroo alyawma innakum minna la tunsaroona

  • [But they will be told:] “Cry not in supplication today: for, behold, you shall not he succoured by Us! - 23:65 (Asad) -

    قَدْ كَانَتْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنتُمْ عَلَى أَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنكِصُونَ (23:66)

    Qad kanat ayatee tutla AAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoona

  • Time and again were My messages conveyed unto you, but [every time] you would turn about on your heels - 23:66 (Asad) -

    مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِ سَامِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ (23:67)

    Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroona

  • [and,] impelled by your arrogance, you would talk senselessly far into the night.” - 23:67 (Asad) -

    أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا الْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَاءهُم مَّا لَمْ يَأْتِ آبَاءهُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ (23:68)

    Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahum ma lam yati abaahumu alawwaleena

  • Have they, then, never tried to understand this word [of God]? Or has there [now] come to them something that never came to their forefathers of old? - 23:68 (Asad) -

    أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُ مُنكِرُونَ (23:69)

    Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahum lafasadati alssamawatu waalardu waman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAan thikrihim muAAridoona

  • But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! - 23:71 (Asad) -

    أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ (23:72)

    Am tasaluhum kharjan fakharaju rabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru alrraziqeena

    Walaw rahimnahum wakashafna ma bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

  • And even were We to show them mercy and remove whatever distress might befall them [in this life], they would still persist in their overweening arrogance, blindly stumbling to and fro. - 23:75 (Asad) -

    وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ (23:76)

    Walaqad akhathnahum bialAAathabi fama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoona

  • And, indeed, We tested them through suffer­ing, but they did not abase themselves before their Sustainer; and they will never humble them­selves - 23:76 (Asad) -

    حَتَّى إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ (23:77)

    Hatta itha fatahna AAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin itha hum feehi mublisoona

  • until We open before them a gate of [truly] severe suffering [in the life to come]: and then, lo! they will be broken in spirit. - 23:77 (Asad) -

    وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ (23:78)

  • Say: “In whose hand rests the mighty dominion over all things, and who is it that protects, the while there is no protection against Him? [Tell me this] if you happen to know [the answer]!” - 23:88 (Asad) -

    سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ قُلْ فَأَنَّى تُسْحَرُونَ (23:89)

    Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faanna tusharoona

  • [And] they will reply: “[All this power belongs] to God.” Say: ‘How, then, can you be so deluded?” - 23:89 (Asad) -

    بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُم بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ (23:90)

  • Nay, We have conveyed unto them the truth: and yet, behold, they are intent on lying [to them­selves]! - 23:90 (Asad) -

    مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِن وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِذًا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ (23:91)

    Ma ittakhatha Allahu min waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithan lathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAala baAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana Allahi AAamma yasifoona

  • SAY: “O my Sustainer! If it be Thy will to let me witness [the fulfillment of] whatever they [who blaspheme against Thee] have been promised [to suffer] – - 23:93 (Asad) -

    رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي فِي الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (23:94)

    Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi alththalimeena

  • do not, O my Sustainer, let me be one of those evildoing folk!” - 23:94 (Asad) -

    وَإِنَّا عَلَى أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَادِرُونَ (23:95)

  • [Pray thus] for, behold, We are most cer­tainly able to let thee witness [the fulfillment, even in this world, of] whatever We promise them! - 23:95 (Asad) -

    ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ (23:96)

    IdfaAA biallatee hiya ahsanu alssayyiata nahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoona

    فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَلَا أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَاءلُونَ (23:101)

    Faitha nufikha fee alssoori fala ansaba baynahum yawmaithin wala yatasaaloona

  • - but you made them a target of your derision to the point where it made you forget all remembrance of Me; and you went on and on laugh­ing at them. - 23:110 (Asad) -

    إِنِّي جَزَيْتُهُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ (23:111)

    Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabaroo annahum humu alfaizoona

    وَمَن يَدْعُ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ لَا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ إِنَّهُ لَا يُفْلِحُ الْكَافِرُونَ (23:117)

    Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahan akhara la burhana lahu bihi fainnama hisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihu alkafiroona
