In 2007 the Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) and the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) came to a consensus in the method for determining the beginning of Lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal.

Based on this criteria

1st of Ramadan will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2010

1st of Shawwal (Eid Al-Fitr) will be on Friday, September 10, 2010

May Allah keep us on the right path, and accept our fasting and prayers.

Ramadan Kareem to all!

Some mosques and communities may observe different criteria for determining the start of the lunar month. Please confirm with your local moon-sighting authorities to determine when to start Ramadan.

As-Sallam-Alaikum, regarding start of Ramadan. It reads it starts on Wednesday but not if it is at pre dawn or with Maghrib prayer. Can you tell me which it is. Because if it really is the 10th with Maghrib prayer that is important, yes?

Shukron

Ramadan Mubarak.

Quran 49:1 O you who believe! Make not (a decision) in advance before Allh and His Messenger (SAW), and fear Allh. Verily! Allh is
All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (1)

Quran 33:66-68 The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire they will say: "Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed
the Messenger!" (66) And they would say: "Our Lord! we obeyed our chiefs and our great ones and they misled us as to the (right) path. (67) "Our Lord! Give them double Penalty and curse them with a very great Curse!" (68)

Hadith: "Start fasting on seeing the crescent (of Ramadan), and give up fasting on seeing the crescent (of Shawwal), and if the sky is overcast
(and you cannot see it), complete thirty days of Sha'ban."(Narrated Abu Huraira, Bukhari 3, book 31 #133).

Fasting may happen on 30th Shabaan ( Yawm-ul Shaque/Day of Doubt) OR on Shawwal 1st based on Non-Islamic observation of Moon Sighting which is
against Islamic teachings.(Search Keyword Fasting on 30th Shabaan/1st Shawwal)

Thank you Duane for your kind greetings. Islamic Year,Months, Weeks and Days should be universal. Islam is for uniting the ummah, not for dividing it. I strongly believe that every Muslim can start Ramadan on the same Day on this earth. May Allah Bless. Aameen.

KHAN FROM US said:
May Allah guide us to the right path & unite us following Quran & Sunnah not the innovations like Calculations or Mecca based Hilaal unless this is approved by Jamhoor E Ulemma as Ijmaa(Joint decision of Islamic orgs not just one that has no affiliation with major organisation.

There are evidences & facts that our beloved Prophet(in Mecca/Madina), His caliphs after His death & in Islamic History observed Islamic/Lunar months, Events(Fastings: Ashura, Arafa,13-15th Shaabaan)& EIDS(Fitr & Adha)according to LOCAL Moonsighting ONLY or 30 days month if moon not sighted for other reasons.
I urge that all international Ulemma, scholars, Muftis must hold a conference in Mecca/Madina as these are center-point for us. They must pass an international fatwa/ruling 'Ijma' that must be followed by all over the world as one Umma.

They must discuss 3 options for our calender:
1)Local Hilaal moon-sighting(sunnah),
2)Calculation assist,
3)Mecca Hilaal as Kaaba-mecca is center-point in all regards(Islamic & Geographical).

Remember that Allah and pbuh, made the rules for all muslims over the world from center point(Mecca-Madinah) not local muslims like ICNA,ISNA, FCNA,hilaal committees(Cheap Competition). WallahuAlam.
