Eid al Adah will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in North America and other parts of the world.

Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that Eid Al Adha will be on Wednesday December 19. According to a statement issued by the council December 10 is the 1st day of Dhu Al Hijja (The 12th month of the Islamic Calendar).

Nearly three million pilgrims from around the world will gather in the plain of Arafah on Tuesday, December 18, marking the peak of the annual Hajj.

Muslims worldwide will commemorate the Hajj on Wednesday, December 19 where they will celebrate Eid Al-Adha, (Festival of Sacrifice) to honor the sacrifice of Prophet Abraham.

Muslims in America as well as in many other parts of the world hold two different opinions about the observance of Eid al-Adha. Some observe it on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah according to their local lunar date and others follow the announcement of Hajj by the authorities in Makkah and celebrate this Eid after the day of Arafah.

After careful study and consideration, the Fiqh Council of North America has reached the conclusion that Eid al-Adha will follow the Day of Hajj as announced in Makkah. This is also the conclusion of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (EFCR).

EID MUBARAK

To remember and learn from the struggle of Prophet Ibrahim is a lesson for humanity for all times.

Prophet Ibrahim proved his absolute and unwavering commitment to God with sacrifices like no other human being has endured.

May this be a blessed Eid for all and May Allah help us follow in the foot steps of Prophet Ibrahim .

It is a SHAME on Muslims Muftees ,ICNA, ISNA, religious Scholars & leaders that they do not unite and creating confusion and Fitna among muslims. You are responsible for all of these and be ready to face questions during Qayaamah.

IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP & MAKE ONE UNIVERSAL DECISION TO FOLLOW COMPLETELY the MECCA OR SCIENTIFIC CALCULATION OR MOONSIGHTING CALENDER for ENTIRE YEAR instead of just for EID-UL-ADHA. Many muslims I talked to have no problem with this.

You cannot make one decision for Eid-ul Fitr and another decision for Eid-Ul Adha for ANY reasons. No negotiations/compromise in Islamic fundamentals. Remember our Prophet denied when kuffars came to hom to negotiate on the Idol worship and his worship to one God-Allah.

Why we have to follow the ONLY Eid decision made for Mecca made by corrupted, puppet kings when they themselves are not religious.

To ISNA and Some religious leaders:Why not follow their other decisions like sex segregation,no women employees, leaderships & moderators in Islamic centers, your organisations & in your conferences.

IT IS A SHAME indeed whether you big agree or not. What are you scared off?

Since the pre printed clander and calculation are set a side; it is about time for us to give up our personal loyality to other than Allah s.w.t. We should (in US and West)celebrate our holidays according to local moonsighting. As those who do by moonsighting they seems to be the persistant and on very good track.

I challenge Islamic City to arrange a (Youtube) debate on this issue with the scholars from both sides-this is going to be a bone of contention for along time if we don't have consensus of this. Accordingly it is clear that from the time of the Prophet(pbuh)to at least 10 year ago each locality followed local moon sighting irrespective of what was going on elsewhere. The advent of technology has forced many to think differently and make a decision based not on tradition but on unity. As this eid is about sacrifice we need to sacrifice or desires and whims rather than accommodate them. The Prophet (pbuh) never bothered about consensus of unity for eid. Medina has on occasions different eids from Mecca. He gave clear simple and basic instructions and it was followed by all up until recently. Now its traditions against modernization. We need one society in the US that everyone respects and represents scholars from both sides of the divide of sit on its board and make responsible concrete decisions. At present there are too many each with its own argument and confusion and friction as well as divides are ripe within communities -is this Unity? If we are to rewrite excepted norms of Sharia then these scholars must stop this wrongful attitude of who's right and who's wrong at the behest of the masses expense. This is not Islam this is not what the sprit of this eid is about either.Making decitions that effect all means including all in these decitions and this is clearly not what the Fiqh Council did, or we would have had consensus -so excatly what careful considerations did they make in deducing that this is an excepted principle umoung all the scholars that will be adheard to by all? We as the general public demand that the scholars from both sides make sacrifices and reach concensus on Eid.Untill then each of us as individulas must make sacficies toward either our own principles or others to our priciples in each of our localities for the sake of unity and peace.

Assalamalaikum: It is very surprise to know that Eidul Adha is December 19. It looked to me there is something wrong in the announcement. I think it should be double checked. I think Eidul adha was expected to be on. thursday or friday but not on wednesday. I think wednesday is Arafa day

Subhan-Allah,

This will cause much confusion for those of us who live in the West. My states organization of Imams concluded that dul-hijjah started today (Wednesday 12th) and correspondingly, eid will be on 21st. This is going to be the biggest gap between eids of Muslims in the US.

If December 10 is the first day of Dhu Al Hijja how can Eid be on the 19 of December? Sahih Al Bukhari, chapter 48 To proceed at noon on the day of Arafat (9 day of Dhul-Hijja). The prophet (sws)only preformed one Hajj and in Sahih Al Bukari the 10 day of Dhul-Hijja was the day of sacrafice, which was done after the Eid salat. Is this not the legal way of the Prophet (sws)? I have been muslim for 12 years now and Eid Al Adha has always been on the 10 day of Dhul-hijja why change it?

It's sad that these so-called Islamic organizations have bypassed the injunctions of the Quran and Sunnah to follow some unreliable calculations or the governement of a particular country to determine Eid. May ALLAH Guide us all.
