A line "drawkcab" in time ...

Remember you implored the assistance of your Lord, and He answered you: "I will assist you with a thousand of the angels, ranks on ranks." - 8:9

Most of us vibrantly celebrate everything of Ramadan except the Battle of Badr and the lessons thereof.

Badr was a battle between Darkness and Light, Disbelief and Faith, Falsehood and Truth, and between Ignorance and Islam. A contest of two unequal forces, indeed.

A small group of Muslims offer in Badr an unparallel legacy. They fulfilled (in Badr) the essentials of Islam as a complete code of human life and conduct. Before Badr, Islam was a mere religion, after Badr it became a system of justice and righteousness that we can only dream of today. A line, if drawn backward in time to the 2nd year of Hijra reveals lessons for today's and tomorrows.

The ancient Badr must also help us remember the Ramadan of recent years. Eight precise years ago, over 50 Muslims were shot killed and many hundreds were severely wounded while peacefully performing their Fajr (Dawn) prayers in Masjid Ibrahim, in the Occupied Lands of Hebron. During recent Ramadans (1999) while everyone was fasting during the days and feasting during the nights, Muslims in Albania and Chechnya were bombed and butchered by Serbs and Russians. And, lo behold this Ramadan, we find it is Afghanistan's turn at the hand of Americans and Afghans themselves! Of course no one knows what the future shall unfold for whom, where and how.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan must rejuvenate in us a spirit that is troubled, like a sleepless mother wanting to feed her infant in the middle of the night. Palestinians, Kashmiris, Chechens and others are striving for a just peace, dignity and honor. None of us must simply rely on the waving hands of the Friday Khateebs stabbing the air. It does nothing but warehouse our memories. Years of unbroken emotional assault and a gulf in lost memories makes the pain flat, outstretching too long ago to know its origins and thus to contemplate its end.

Muslims will not regain independence until we free ourselves from the bondage of the self to the slavery of One God. In Him and Him alone, we will undoubtedly find ourselves truly independent and content.

Let us pray that God bless us with His Shade and keep us under His Protection only. O God, guide us to do that is right and forbid what is wrong. Give us Your Guidance to truly feel the Ramadan of others and help us fulfill our obligations to ourselves, our families, neighbors, relatives, friends and the humanity.

Greetings.
Thank you for a place to comment.
Your article says "Muslims will not regain inde-
pendence until we free ourselves from the bondage of the self to the slavery of one God."

Please forgive me....but you have a great deal of compassion that can be given from whatever starting point you are at now."Yourself" is an irelevent term. You exist within God.
You want independence..walk in God as He walks in you.
You are not in bondage to yourself. You are not in bondage to God. All irrelevent terms.
God is love. I am sorry and do not want to upset you.. your article is so bittersweet. This should have been a month of celebration ..your questioning the universe' sanity is unremark-
able. It is the questioning of yourself that draws my attention.
"Conflicting wishes can not be my will."
Another time.

The continous atrocites on Muslims almost all over the world is accelarating day by day. The anti Muslim Campaign by America and its allies is on. Our lives, dignities, honors are no more secured. Our Muslim Nations are also inclined before Jews. they become slave of them.
At this Junture, we are almost helpless.
We make du'a together form Allah to overcome from this problem.

It is rather unfortunate that fellow muslims are supporting non muslims to fight other fellow muslim. Why do we stand? No doubt you cannot punish someoone unless is found guilt. It seems as if America is UN and UN is America.America's military might is too much for Afghan I belief America has a hidden agenda.Forceful occupation of ones land is the worst terroist act.We the muslim must take a stand against this ,urgently.
I is very sad and disturbing seeing your fellow muslim mercilessly in the holy month of Rammadan without any justification however.I pray to ALLAH to protect us and beg all muslims to do so.INSAALAAH ALLAH will accept our prayer

I get Bulletin from you every week and I often visiy islamiciy.com amd islam.org and other islamic sites. I think a lot of muslums including the author of this bulletin are missing a large portion of what is going on in "islamic world". While muslums are doing somwhat a good job of speaking and writing about Palestinians, Kashmiris and Chechens, No one is either willing to write about whta's going on in their own backyard OR they are not aware of it. Even worse they don't give a damn about it. The backyard I am talking about is Kurdistan, and the suffering peaople are kurds. Did you know that the number of people(muslum) killed in kurdistan is more than the number of people killed in Palestine and North Irelang altogether. I don't know why muslum do not even mension the atrocities in kurdistan. Is it because the killers are araps (better yet muslums) and/or turks and farsies NOT infidels like Jews and Russians or Americans?
Please don't get me wrong. I am not raising a nationality concern, I am just expressing my frustration.
I hope you answer my email put it on bulletin.
Thank you,

Islam and mordernization and the way its being perceived:

Iam practicing muslim who right now is outraged by the progranda that goes on against islam in the media at present time

The Kasmiri war, the Cechnyan war is a mistake, we are failing to show our loyalty the country we live in. Iam from Canada and can live with other religion in this country.

Why are the kashmiris are fighting or the checnyan are fighting:

For what: To have a govt like Egypt, Syria where poeple who speak out are shot dead.

My point is the muslims in the islamic countries must progress with freedom and democracy. Islam is quite clear about democracy and there should be no mistake the islam is about concensus, consencus.

Another point- where were those islamic countries when Afgan country was following the wrong islamic values. Like public beating

My point is that Islam is now being misunderstood by the Muslims themselves so how can we tell the right things to the western media

Muslims will not gain independence until....to the slavery of one God= God does not think of us as slaves for if by our faith and commitment to our God we become a part of our God and no part of God is a slave but more those that serve our God freely without force by slavery. Now I have a question for you. All muslims form a religious body. All Roman Catholics form a body of peoples. Are these bodies healthy? There are many bodies who make up this global body we all belong to and a time of healing as well as recognition is at hand. Patience ..work at healing the body and you shall see the rewards that were fortold.
