Saad Hariri has said that he will be returning to Beirut "very soon" to affirm his decision to resign as Lebanon's prime minister. He was speaking in an interview in the Saudi capital Riyadh, the same city where he announced his surprise resignation more than a week ago, prompting reports that he has being held there against his will.

Hariri also reiterated his call for Lebanon's Hezbollah movement and Iran to stay out of regional conflicts.

One concern is that instability in Lebanon could spark a wider conflict, which is why the crisis is being followed closely, particularly in Israel.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports west Jerusalem.
