Great Scholar, Dr. Mohammad Said Ramadan a-Bouti was martyred on Thursday after a suicide terrorist blew himself up at al-Iman Mosque in Damascus while the late martyr was giving a religious lesson.

Abuayisha, to the best of my knowledge Mohammad Said Ramadan al-Bouti was the only senior Sunni scholar in the world to support the Assad government in Syria.

What is your position on the civil war raging in Syria?  Like al-Bouti, do you support Assad? Or do you support the Syrian opposition?

I favor peace and stability; therefore it was an enormous mistake to oppose Assad militarily.

I just did a google news search, and discovered that there have been new developments in the death of al-Bouti.  Based upon a newly released video, it appears that the Assad government was responsible for murdering al-Bouti, and trying to make it look like a suicide bombing had taken place.

According to this theory: although al-Bouti had been a strong supporter of Assad, he felt he could no longer keep silent when Assad was clearly responsible for the killings of many thousands of innocent civilians.  There are, in fact, reports indicating that al-Bouti was trying to smuggle his family and himself out of Syria.  Because of this, the Assad government made the decision to murder him and frame the opposition for his murder.

Lots of conflicting versions of al-Bouti's death on the web, but if the video linked to in the following stories is legit, then clearly the earlier story about a suicide bombing is bogus:

Well, anyway, "smoke and mirrors" - truth being the first casualty of war.  Sadly, Sheikh Al-Bouti's death is one of upward to 70,000 lives unnecessary lost in my estimation.

Hi what do you believe is responsible for all of these murders? What is the thinking behind it?

Military revolt against the regime is responsible in my estimation. Although autocratic in rule, prior to "Arab Spring" ethnic minorities worked together as Syrians.  Hopefully Syria will stand as an example for other regional states for what does not work, and seek non-violent organized action to achieve goals. As for Syria, indeed, 'the gates of hell are open'.
