Thailand is not a Muslim country. The muslims are a minority there.

Assalamualaikum.

Allah is Al-Adl. Most Just. When He commands something, there surely is a wisdom underlying His commands. While He commands us women to cover ourselves modestly, He also commands that men avert their gaze from women who are not their mahram.

What is the wisdom behind women wearing a veil?

First and foremost, we must understand that passion, lust or desire in men starts from the sight (eyes), while that of a woman is from the touch (skin). Most Men gets easily aroused when they sighted a sexy woman. And most women know that. That is the reason why some women dress sexily. To attract the attention of these men. And we do not have to wonder why pornographic sites are mostly frequented by guys.

Women who dress up modestly in veils are not only following the commands of The Creator, but in actual fact, they are protecting themselves from, molest, rape and fornication. When these happens, it not only affects the individual, but also the family and the society. Remember the woman in question is someone's daughter, sister, wife, mother of another. By guarding ourselves from the evil of men, we are protecting ourselves, our families and our society.

Whether the female is an intellectual, pretty, ugly or obese, the law applies to all. That is the Justice of The Creator.

I would like to relate a story of an elderly non-Muslim friend who commented that we Muslim women are lucky in that we hide our white hair underneath our scarves and at the same time look good too. I replied - Dont forget when we were young we also had to cover ourselves even though we have beautiful and gorgeous hair.

Putting on a veil does not make you feel inferior. In fact, it makes us feel more confident, more secure and at the same time, feel closer to Allah our Creator.

Why does a woman have to cover up but not a man? My husband doesn't have to worry about covering up but as his wife I must do that? A woman only gets looked at intellectually if they cover everything else about them? I look at Hillary Clinton and think she is very intellectual, but she is not wearing hijab? What if a lady is very obese, and not appealing to most men? Do they need to wear hijab? Also if woman must cover up so that another man doesn't get attracted to her, why does a woman pay for that? I must cover up to stop other men looking at me? I understand that a woman shouldn't be wearing a bikini in Islam, but the fact that woman have to be seperated, wear clothes differently, avert there gaze when there around men, clearly to me feels like woman are treated inferior? Am I wrong?

I find this very interesting.  For me where I live I don't see women covered up all that often.  I see it sometimes with the older generation but not with the younger generation.

I also was just in Thailand and there too women of all ages were not covered.

Now I'm not sure if I was just missing what they were covering up (hair etc...) or if they just don't feel that they need to.  So I'm wondering if that means that they are not living their lives based on the Quran?  Or am I just reading too much into this?
