The consumption of alcohol is prohibited, but alcoholic based perfumes as I was told recently is not forbidden however it is not recommended nor encouraged. The weakest argument I've heard regarding the former is that alcohol based perfumes can lead the person in consuming alcohol which is not true. alcohol when touchibng the surface of our skin evaporates. It does not reach our blood stream nor are we intoxicated by its scent.

According to one of Dr. Muzzamil Siddiqi's answer on this question he specified that denatured alcohol is permissable. It's different from the alcohols in wine/liquers.
Even Listerine antiseptic mouthwash is permissable as it's denatured.

One of the ladies at the cosmetic counter told me that all ointments/lotions/mosturizers contain alcohol as a preservative.

We even use rubbing alcohol for wounds and scratches on our skin.

I think we concentrate too much on petty stuff and make our life difficult.
